Kulothunga Cholan I

                                  The Kulothunga was the name give to Anabhaya Cholan who was crowned as the king of later cholans. The Kulothunga was the son born to Raja Raja Narendra and Ammangai the daughter of Raja Rajendra. He was not the heir apparent to throne but still he caught the throne of cholas and ending the cycle of Vijayalaya chola. He was the might solider in the Eastern Chalukya and fought many battles side by side with Raja Rajendra and Rajathi Raja and also appointed as the viceroy of Eastern Chalukya.

                                    He waged wars with the Kalinga (modern Odisha) and won the war against them. This war was recorded as kalingathuparani. Which speaks about the kulothunga cholan asking his commander Karunakara Pallavan to destroy the Kalingam and free the Tamil Peoples who were imprisoned by the Bhemma (King of South Kalinga) and also to capture the Pallura Perunthurai Port which had many contacts with the Suvarnabhoomi (current Java, Sumatra). The commander chief is also noted as the hero in Kalingathuparani.

                                    He waged another war in Sumatra and won the kingdom of Sri Vijaya and also destroyed the pirates who were encouraged by the Sri Vijaya and stopped the pirates from looting goods that were send to the Tamil Nadu. He also had close contacts with the Chinese Song dynasty and also had close relation ship with the Greeks. He send emissaries to China and Rome and also send many gifts to them and also maintained a strong naval force by joining the hands with China.

                                    Kulothunga ascend to the throne during the critical time and maintained the empire. He made the empire to continue in its path, regained its glory and saved the empire from devastating. He waged war with Lanka where the rulers appointed by Cholan's turn against them and joined hands with Vijayabhahu he stationed a huge army and defeated the rebellion force and kept the Lanka under the Chola's control. He also waged war with Chalukyas and feared them. He also suppressed the rebellion started by the Pandyas and Chera. He also won the Vikramaditya of Chalukya(Initially but was defeated later).



                                     During his time the arts, architecture ,trade and commerce flourished in Chola country . He also changed his capital to Thiruvarur. He was also know as Madurantaka and Illamkondan along with his titles of Rajakesari Varman. Because of his might the Chola country withstood a 100 years and eventually in his end the Cholas lost a part of Lanka due to rebellion and had only North Lanka and in years they completely lost Lanka. Under his kingship the commander Karunkaran was appointed as the king of Kalinga. Soon after they waged war with North Kalinga and Defeated them and acquired their land too. The above is the territory that he managed.
